I do realise I'm cheating slightly with so many new bits, but I'm planning on keeping it so it'll be worth it.

The handles were from Paddocks, I picked them up this afternoon. They were £1.79 each plus the VAT

I'd had a bit of a set back last week when the ram on my engine crane started leaking. I end up selling it for spares and picked a new one up today.
It's a 2000kg model and cost me £118, which I didn't think was too bad.

I wasn't planning on doing anything today, but the purchase of the crane has briefly spurred me into action.

I've got the engine on the stand.

Dropped the oil, which doesn't look very pleasant.

Then I quickly cleaned a bit to see how it'd come up, not bad at all.

and found the plate from when the army reconditioned it.

Cheers chaps. Just about to go and do a bit more. I want to get the engine cleaned up properly before stripping it down any further.
Might try and get the gearbox in the chassis too.

Engine starting to look good - what are you using to clean/ degrease it ?.

I've used both Carplan engine cleaner, and Gunk. Not much between them, and they work surprisingly well.

I had a couple of hours today and got a little bit more done.

Cleaned the engine up some more to make it less messy to work on.

Then starting taking it apart ready to investigate the inner workings over the next couple of days

And finished by dropping the gearbox in the chassis. At least that's one less thing to trip over on the garage floor.

you lucky sod you dont need to repaint yer engine and youve got an engine stand

im getting really jealous now i cant wait to see how its gonna look when you get the body back on :D:D:D:D

Enjoying reading this, I've just started the same job on my 90, stripping down with chassis ordered, keep it Coming!

Ive just bought (a bit premature) 5 litres of tractol light blue paint for the body and bulkhead. Its just a bit darker than duck egg blue but nearer the original Landy S3 blue. Got it discounted as it is old stock.

I've still not decided on the colour yet. It's between Limestone, Deep Bronze Green, or Battleship Grey

I've taken the head off today. Pleased to see the bores are looking good.

I've made the decision to get the head converted for unleaded while it's off, so I'll be sorting out somewhere for it to go this week.

No pictures today I'm afraid

hmmmm just looked at some pics :D

its out of bronze green or battleship grey in my opinion, but thats just my opinion :p

A bit more done today.

In the end I've decided to use a different engine, so that went in today. Although it took several hours to get it to attach to the gearbox.

I'm off work today, so after a trip out to Paddocks and then a picnic with the wife, I had chance to do a little bit more.

I bought the engine as being reconditioned, but let's face it you never know what you're really getting when you buy from Ebay, so I decided to take the head off for a proper look.

I'm very pleased with what I found, and I reckon it was a bargain for £97.

I'd already got a good quality head gasket set, so fitted that as the one on had stuck to the head and block.

Then I got it all torqued down and the new manifold gaskets on. I also fitted the shiney new dip stick
