I'd hoped to have it rolling by now. The first set of springs turned out to be be faulty, unfortunately so did the second set  I've ordered some more from a different company, so hopefully they'll be here this side of the bank holiday weekend.

I've spent what felt like a long time getting the gearbox out today.

Got there in the end

Then I chucked some degreaser at it and had a quick go with the pressure washer, came up ok for a quick blast.
Just need to do it a bit more with a brush in a few places

Coming on nicely. I dropped the oil in my gearbox S3 rebuild and found 2 teeth and a couple of thumbnail sized plates. Replacement gearbox on the cards but glad I found out before I get to the rebuild stage.

I dropped mine today too. I was a bit luckier in that I only got oil out of it
Glad to hear that. When I logged onto the photos of your chassis I thought" He's a bloody good welder, he's made a nice job of that chassis" then flipped back a page and remembered it was a new galvenised one. Dont feel so bad about my welding now. Keep posting them photos.:)

I've had a good day today. After changing the plugs, coil, and distributor I chucked some petrol down the carb and to my amazement it fired up for the first time in 15 years. Runs really sweet too :D

After getting the engine running I decided it was time for it to come off the old chassis

And then took off some more bits that I need to keep from the old chassis.

Just a couple more bits to go and then it's done with, it's starting to look quite bare

That's going to look loverly de-rusted and in shiney black:)

or is it knackered ??

It's knackered. Go back a couple of pages and you'll see my shiney new chassis ;)

Done that very nice just thought maybe it would paint up and go on flea bay, I'm sure someone will have a V5 to match up with it:behindsofa:

It's been a couple of weeks since I've done anything, but today I've got a bit further.

I've decided to start with the gearbox. The transfer lever was seized when I got it, so it wouldn't come out of 4wd or go into low box.

First up I got it on the engine stand I bought the other week, it certainly makes life easier.

I took the box off where the selector levers are and it all freed off quite easily.

So with that done and back on I thought I whip the handbrake drum off. I know the seal had gone on the output shaft, although I didn't realise how bad it was. I think the pads might need replacing.

I've had a delivery today and couldn't help myself, so I've fitted a few bits.

New shocks. I had thought about putting some +2s on, but in the end decided I wouldn't need them, so these are just standard. I forgot to order the top bolt washer, so I need to pick some up.

New bumper

And new fuel tank.

I've also got all the parts I need for the gearbox, so I reckon I might be able to get that finished at the weekend. Possibly even on the chassis.

Very nice! Did you manage to get an original fuel tank or is it a pattern? I need to replace mine some time soon but unsure if originals are still available?

It's a pattern one. You can get genuine ones, but they're about two and a half times more expensive.

Couple more new little bits are on.

The bumpstops

Rear handles

Steering relay. It's dripping in copper slip just in case it ever needs to come out again. I'm also using new Stainless fixings wherever possible.

I've replaced the seals on the both front and rear gearbox output shafts, and got the new handbrake parts. Just need to do the input shaft seal, but it needs to come off the engine stand first.

So it's gone from this ..

To this.. (not quite finished)

I'd really hoped to have the gearbox back in this weekend, but I forgot to get the new mounts so it'll have to wait another week. Then it'll be time to start on the engine.
