Don't squirt with the vents open at speed :)
Are those silver bonnet cross member supports galvanised? Look to be in very good order

haha yes :D will have to watch that! ;)

and no they arent, they are just in good order, surprising seeing as it had been stored outside for years until i put it on mine :) one lucky find i guess :D

had a bit of a tinker tonight
got the new side panels in, test fitted them before i go and paint them, seems a bit of shame to rub them down and paint them, they are from a td5 in a lovely metallic green, perfect paintwork aswell!! but dont think it matches the blue :D

P150312_1857_02.jpg

so the aluminium turned up today for the grill, so ive had a play with that, just got to file down the spikes on the grill, paint it and stick it together

P150312_1905.jpg

P150312_2052.jpg

and when i get a chance i think im going to make the heater grill match, < your fault johny, ur giving me more jobs!!! :D ;)

i dont think itll make much difference to the airflow or cooling with that tdi engine its running coz theyre not the hottest running engines there are and that massive fan behind the grille will overcome pretty much any difference in this grille and a standard one

and in winter a lot of series and deffenders have grille baffles fitted anyway its only the pictures that dont do it justice

the firm he got it from sells offcuts of this stuff from their main production of high capacity ventilation and air filteration products such as commercial range hoods and spray boothe air conditioners i think if its good enough for that its gotta be allright for this :D:D:D:D:D

only had a few hours in the workshop over this weekend unfortunatly
now i really should be getting on with finishing it and do the modifications afterwards, but i just got carried away :D

so ive done the grill, i think it looks great, and i took the heater grill out and made that to match :D

ive also fitted the carpets and mats (yes carpets, i know its a series but its my series! :D) stripped down the side panels ready for paint and primed the front apron

Been following this thread for a while and have just caught up with it again and just wanted to say what an amazing job you've done in such a short space of time!
One quick question i have got is where did you get the chequer plate for the inside of the doors? Did you make them yourself or buy them pre-cut to shape from somewhere?

Cheers, James.

Nearly finished by the looks of things? You must be very proud of that - Think twice before you ever sell it - when your an old fella wouldn't it be great to have the same Landy you built as a lad. All the important bits are galvanised so she should last you alright! When your fed up of it stick it in a barn if you can afford to :)

thanks land raver, yes very close now, although i dont think it will ever actually be totally finished :D thats exactly the plan! make it last as long as possible and when i need to do it again its easy because every bolt ive put in is stainless :D

right had an hour again after school today

so roof is now white
