most radiator repairers charg about 35 +vat to replace the core

you get me the contact details of ANY rad repairer who will do a 2.25 rad recore for that price and i'll find them enough work to last till christmas

I know for a fact that it is cheaper to get a new rad on a 200TDI than it is to recore it!

thanks - maybe I'll get a new one then! will last the rest of the life of the landy :) unless I can get a really cheap one from the bay

a good used orginal rad is much much better than a cheap and nasty after market version

So who makes OEM Rads then???

PS. (8/3/09) Most vehicle makers simply contract out the supply of their rads, there for this debate about OEM rads and aftermarket rads is useless unless you can state "who the oem supplier is". There are every few companies who manufacture rad cores, there will be a few more who assemble rads (ie core + top tank + bottom tank), most of the problems are caused by storeage, delivery/handling damage and bad installation, feck all to do with bad build quality these days.

One of the main causes of a leaking core is company's using seamed tubes instead of seamless tubes. seamed tubes are ok if every tubes are all the same way up & baked the right way so as the solder on the tubes fills the seam & not running out of it. you only need a couple of tubes the wrong way to cause weak spots in the core.
If its the copper brass rad its an easy fix as long as the copper has not rotted away & best to remove both tanks & flush the core out then resolder the tanks back on. nearly as good as new:D
