series 3 oil on clutch

help massive problem,i managed to get the gearbox off today to hopfully change the clutch but on closer inspection i found the clutch and everything else was covered in oil

it dont look like its from the gearbox so its got to be from engine ,
pls any ideas or has some one had this happen before

You've got an ideal opportunity to change the rear crank oil seal which is the likely culprit. it's going to be behind the flywheel, so isn't too much additional work. perhaps the oil contamination was what made it seem like you had a worn clutch all along?

thanks sounds not to bad i thaught the engine was gona have to come out.
or at least the bottom of the engine is the seal acsessable if i remove the fly wheel

not sure what engine you've got, but I can't imagine that it's going to be much of a difference. Do a search, and you'll find tonnes of info on it. I found this thread useful when I did my disco 200tdi one

I particularly found Syphers idea of using self tapping screws useful - It's even more useful that he lives nearby
