Series 3 Gearbox problem

I am currently stripping and about to rebuild my series 3 gearbox. I have an issue removing the intermediate shaft in the transfer box. The tapered boss that holds it in has seized and I tried pulling it out but the bloomin thing broke! The two slots that are cut into it are where it has broken so I'm not sure how I can possible remove it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have had to weld bars to the end of these shafts before now to pull them out......obviously as a last resort if you are going to replace the shaft anyway.
