OK , its time to fit a radio , im trying to keep it all as original as I can so no CD player ,or even a tape deck , I just want a crappy AM/FM radio that I can get off ebay for £5. I have never fitted one before and I need it broken down to idiot level , is it as simple as getting a live ignition feed , an aerial and 2 speakers? , do the old radios (early 80s) have block connectors on the back or is that a recent thing , Ideally I want a radio that has a power/aerial input on the back and and output for the speakers , is it that simple?

Please note ref to "idiot level" if you are kind enough to reply.

Thanks in advance.

Early ones came in every guise.
Most still just had a live wire and two to a speaker and the ariel was a socket in the back. The casing earthed out on the bodywork. The stereo ones obviously had twin speaker cables.
Not sure about an electric aerial but it was a widely bought add on so I presumed they where universal.

I wanted a radio in mine as well without drilling holes or making brackets. I made a plywood box, glued a towel to it, cut a hole for a automotive radio with bluetooth in the top, cut 2 more holes in the side and put a couple speakers in it. You really only need battery positive and chasis ground wire (put a inline fuse in near battery post positive). I made mine so that I can unplug it when not in use also some handles on the box.

I have mine in a slot on the cubby box. A live feed with earthing to the seat box. Got twin speakers fitted in behind the seats mounted backwards. TBH I've disconnected it as all me tapes are cooked. Landy came with it, nice 80's touch. Must get mine fixed up. Big car boot sales are good places to pick up period radio cassette's for cars.Given the general noise levels of a Landy you'll need to fit powerful speakers. Even at that it'll be competing against all the landy road noise. Good excuse to crank up to volume .

Was on a website today that had amplified speakers inside antique suitcases. Just google "antique speaker suitcase" and you'll see. Might be super sweet if you made your own with 12v dc, and bought the plug for the inspection socket on fleabay to power it.
