having bust another 3 bearing diesel in my series i have been offered a 2.5td (19j) engine by my brother who has upgraded his 90 to a 300tdi ,will this 19j fit into my series easy enough .does the engine match the bell housing, is the clutch mechanism the same and do i need the oil cooler for normal road use. im just trying to get everything in place before i do the conversion as i have limited time use on the workshop so would like to wrap it up over a weekend, many thanks any help appreciated

Dunno really....but Im reasonably sure the mountings are the same as the 12j and theres something about the injection pump fouling the offside engine mount. Might be worth searching for that motor conversion as its more common.
Bell housing and clutch are ok.
If the oil cooler is on it now then I would leave it on. Having said that, landrover engines generally seem to be over cooled....except didn't the 19j have a bad rep for overheating and doing head gaskets?

yes the pump is very close to the engine mounting, i had to pack it up slightly to get the clearance, clutch and bellhousing are same, you wont need oil cooler, you will need a live feed via ignition for the pump solenoid, if your previous engine was a petrol ,then use the live coil feed, if not you'll have a problem you might have to swap your ignition switch for a diesel one, there is another way but i can't remember how its done

As said above relatively easy job, I fitted one into my series 3 lightweight, but later replaced it for the later 200tdi as the 19j never ran right, my advice would be make sure the engine your getting is a good one ! Best of luck

the wirings no problem ill get round that is the standard series cooling system up to it as well ,the engines ok its only done 60k ,how easy was the 200tdi conversion does that fit the 4 speed box????
