series 3 diesel power loss?

hi all, can anyone help ive just bought a series 3 88 diesel (my very first landy)and changed the old broken leaf springs a crappy shocks.but since doing so there is alot of vibration as i pick up speed and it will only get to about 45mph flat out and slows to around 30/35 on a very slight hill but it used to get to 55 easily and would climb a mounting last week before changing the rear springs:confused: can any one shed some light on what might be wrong? regards
 
lol i thought i had,yep every things torqued up and on correct, just checked the uj's one is worn abit i think as there is a tiny amount of movement in it,and just noticed one of the engine mount rubbers is perishing so that could explain the vibration.but the the speed problem is my main worry so any help would be great.regards
 
have you checked your axle is aligned? measure from a chassis forward of the spring hangar to the front of the axle case on both sides (usign a point common to both sides on the chassis) also check your wheel bearings
 
just done your checks and found 2 bearings need doing,i dont have a clue why i didnt think of that,so ill get them sorted asap thanks for the help
 
now then one problem sorted(touch wood)anyone got advice on the lack of power issue?? it would be much appreciated.as im a complete novice when it comes to diesel land rovers.

the speeds dont seem too far away from my diesel, ive got overdrive and get to 55 ok but without 45 is getting loud, it does change according to the weather getting a bit denser air in perhaps? and sometimes will go to 55 no overdrive

ive got overdrive, when i changed the rear springs i accidentally allowed the axel to drop almost to the floor do you think this could of disegaged the overdrive as i dont have a lever connected to engage a disegage it?regards
 
how would i know if the overdrive has disegaged without the lever?would i see any gaps or do i just try and shove it towards the gear box?:confused:or am i completly off mark here?

ok overdrive is engaged so its not that but have noticed a gap between the exhaust manifold and exhaust big enough to fit a pound coin in all the way around could this be my problem with the lack of go in the landy???
 
reet its not the thermo thats working fine.sent some injector cleaner through the system and its picked up a little so it must be a fault in the fuel sytem some where,ill check it all over tomo and let you know if i find it.
