Series 3 dashboard top

Bought a top dasboard off a fellow land rover owner for a series 3 last week , but when i got it home and went to replace , the top dash grills were a differnt shape . My original matches the cut outs by the window but then goes bigger . Any ideas

There are "early" and "late" Dash tops
Early Series IIIs (up to about 1975) had no cut-outs in the inner dash and the flaps vented through louvres in the dashtop just behind the demister vents.

Later SIIIs had the 90/110/Defender style cut-outs with the flaps venting straight to the interior with flyscreens to stop bugs getting in ...i think from memory

Also the early dash tops were flat on the underside of the leading edge ...whereas the latter ones had two scallops in the underside A la military ones
