Bit off topic but......
I took the cylinder/head/piston ect off my bike today
My piston on my AM6 engine ( 2-stroke 50cc )

S6000709.jpg

The marks are all the exhaust port side tho the barrel itself has nothing wrong visible... slight scoring but nothing like the piston. Also the piston seems too slack now and just falls into the barrel until it hits the rings :(
Does anyone know what could have caused this ?

what does the cylinder to exhaust gasket look like if its chipped or burnt it could have spat a little down the barrel and scored the piston also i notice from the pic the chip in the top ring wich could have scored the piston id say replace the piston and rings of possible and the piston should run freely down the cylinder under its own weight but with no wabble left to right if it dont wabble when inserted up to the rings it will be fine with just 2 new rings as for the barrel just rehone it with a light rubbing of 1800 wet and dry also check the crankcase for any damage or debris it could have come from down there

just removed the rings and turned the cylinder upsides down - it SHOULD apparently drop fast until it closes the exhaust port and then slowly because of air resistance..... dropped with a clunk and I thought there was too much play as well ( wabble as you put it lol )......never mind, looks like the cylinder and piston need replaced :( - MORE expense :(
No gasket at exhaust, just a push in jobby ( not much pressure on a 50cc I guess lol )
I will check the crankcase ect when I get chance...probly next weekend :( - cant wait to see what the wife says when I tell her I need a new one :/

i hear you loud n clear on the wife thing mine is still dead against the ide of me getting a series 3 but came home the other day with the new paint for the kitchen wich i did for the sake of a bit of peace n quiet i now have a series 3 blue kitchen pmsl

ol @ kitchen painting johnny
Well I managed to pick up a second hand ( sposedly perfect ) cylinder, head, piston and rings off fleabay tonight foe 99p + £10 postage..... bargain since a real AM6 one is £250+
If it dont work well well....gotta buy a cheap replica I guess.
Also it says its had some minor porting work done.... knife edged transfers.... dunno what difference that will make to a 16+ stone on a 50cc tbh lol

my old trick was to smash the baffles out of the exhaust wich restrict airflow meaning less power it used to make honda cub 50,70,90s go like **** off a shovel compared to the standard ones
im still looking for a donor for me suzuki ts50x it got nicked 2 months after me passing me cbt test got half of it back still kept it as a reminder to take more care where i park things :D

lol, restriction washer is out the exhaust ;) -- as is she does 50-55mph :)

i did the same with me TS and a week later went round a track on the local wasteland and somehow didnt see the burnt out car in the ditch and dumped the bike on top of it the bike seemed fine but on the way home i got me usual 45 mph in top gear 4th forgot i was already in top gear and went to change up again and low and behold i had 2 more gears the crash had knocked the gear restrictor pin out of the engine and it then did 60 easily funny how things work out innit lol

lol, you did well then.....for 2 month :p
Mine has 6.... however 5th and 6th are barely ever usable... 6th down a 3 mile hill maybe, and 5th down a 1 mile hill lol.....on the flat or down a normal hill they just loose power and she slows down :(
After I stick in my new piston/cylinder ect I will see how she goes since prior she was hitting 50-55 and loosing 50PSI compression. If its still not getting higher I might try a 11 tooth front instead of the 13 to see if it makes any difference.....slower top speed however due to making 2 gears usable ( hopefully ) it might do the same or a little more...but in a better rev range :)

wonder if its possible to convert the cylinder and head to 175:rolleyes:

yeah I can easily change to a 90cc ect if I wanted....with new crack, carb, jets, CDI, ect ect but dont want to be illegal to that extent lol ( and I could just buy a 500 cheaper) - a blind eye is turned at a exhaust restrictor if its not driven like an idiot.... a new cylinder on the other hand..... lol - besides, the road I use it on daily is a 40mph limit.... she does 50-55 so really no need :)

:( no way...... probably realised he couldnt get £3k or didnt like you lol
with regard to doing anything to her lately.... took the handles off the back of the chassis, tow bar, fog light, few bolts out of the seating bit so hopefully get it off next :)

..... does hitting the chassis everytime I pass with a hammer to knock more off it count ? lol

as long as decent parts fall off the ****ty chassis hell yeah but aint that just waisted effort like floggin a dead horse lmfao:5bbeatdeadhorse5:

And I thought I had a lot to do! All the best, use the force, it will all be worth it in the end.. nice front grille! they are the best, IMHO.

a mate of mine used to take his grille off to cook on when we used to do allnighters laning on the pennine way shortly after poching trout out of the local waterways furrkin lurvley

stuck in my new piston, cylinder and head to my bike btw.... she does an extre 2MPH now!!!! lol
Got a 19mm ( 12 mm standard carb ) and manifold to fit as well.....tho its not a straight forward swap.
Found nothing in the crank case ect but to my horror even tho I had covered the open engine while away dad had decided to use a circular saw over the top of it:mad::mad::mad:
Never mind, running well, thanks for the advice regarding the piston ect :)
