Hey guys,

My handbrake is almost impossible to put on, any ideas what i should look for and how i should go about it? Thinking i'll just drive it home tomorrow and chock it until it's sorted.

Cheers.

I rarely ever used the handbrake and never if it was going to be parked up for a while so it doesn't seize on! Just leave it in gear, unless on a decent hill

Save your money for shiny new bits
It’s worth having a few hours to remove all the bits , derust and grease em up
If you remove the middle seat cover you can see what should be moving
I investigated my poor handbrake before mot and I’d put one of the expander wedges in wrong way round on previous overhaul !

+1 to above, the linkeage gets dry and stiff and its often adjusted wrong. Its worth taking it apart, lubing and adjusting the angles so everything is just short of 90 deg when the brake comes on. You will need to take the drum off and clean the brake out, odds on its full of oil so get a few cans of brake cleaner. Its a simple job but takes a while. Beware the nuts holding the drum could be 5/16 UNF (1/4 whit spanner) and the linkeages come in BSF and UNF so don't order any parts until you know which one you have. My 1970 S2A was all BSF so its whit spanners for the linkeage nuts too.

Nothing beats having a book for reference rather than scrolling on a phone or ipad ect just my preference. :)

I don’t disagree

Just very stiff to put on, all my strength is needed and then it suddenly jars on.

I have a haynes manual, just i'm away from home at the moment.

Cheers
