Series 2a ex MOD project

Just gone and bought what i think is an ex MOD Series 2a SWB truck cab.Moment of madness really as the chassis is more than likely toast.Certainly rear crossmember and rear of chassis is nothing but rust and all the outriggers are gone too,but if when i strip it and find the front half is okay then i might have a go at repairing it.I'm not sure what year it is as its on a 'V' plate(? registered 1978/9 when came out of service).Engine turns freely and bulkhead looks saveable condition.What sold it to me was the bodywork looked in quite good condition.If anyone can tell from the picks if its definately ex MOD and what year it is then i would be grateful.I do not have the reg doc yet as its getting delivered with the vehicle on Friday.Cheers

if it was cast in 78 probs built in 68 so yes 2a

Do you have pic underbonnet? Chassis and various sections are available, bodies are often OK as made of alloy.

Yeah,not sure how to make them bigger as they were lifted from the sellers ad.Will post some more pics of if when its delivered to my house on Friday.Not sure of the significance of these items or if they are actually desirable or original but it has split rim wheels and free wheeling hubs.Guess i'll find out in due course when its pulled apart to see how much rust i've actually bought!

£450 including delivery on the back of a car transport trailer from about 45 miles away.I looked into hiring a trailer and doing it myself(would cost me £65 for hire of trailer and £25 in fuel) so when the seller said he could deliver it too i took him up on the offer.If it needs a new chassis then i paid too much!!!

Thats probably very good value unlessits a real disaster area. Most parts are available and it is a practical classic. They arent making any more of them. Not just being nosy Im thinking of getting another series myself to play with

How many fuel tanks does it have, military have two.

Not sure about the number of fuel tanks but what i did notice was that there is no external fuel filler.There was a tank under the drivers seat but i guess when its actually in my posession this Friday i will find out.

Military ones fill up by lifting the drivers or passenger seats. The fillers are under the seats.

That's a good price for a tax exempt classic (once you've got the serial number you can get a dating letter from motor heritage and get a tax exempt reg issued). Even if it needs a new chassis it's still a good price.

Welding not a problem,been doing it for years! Numerous Minis,Beetles,Capris,Jags,Maxi(dont laugh) and laterly Discoverys and the odd boat trailer.Hope the chassis is salvagble as right now i do not have the funds for that.If it does need one then i guess overtime beckons!

Gutted! Seller contacted me today to let me know he is unable to deliever tomorrow as agreed as the trailer he was going to use is unavailable(its his works trailer for moving plant so i guess work comes first).As soon as he can deliver i will post some better quality pictures.Shame as i was looking forward to to a good weekend of spannering.

Finally delivered today!!Chassis looking quite holy at the back after a good pressure washing.Too dark and wet to take any pics but should be able to post some tomorrow.

Managed to get a better look at things this morning between the rain showers.Rear of chassis is not good esp right side rearmost spring hanger.Looks like its had a replacement rear cross member at some point in its life which has rotted away too.The chassis from about a foot behind the upper shock mount needs replaced so i might get away with a quarter rear crossmember repair piece in the correct military style.The V5 states declared date of manufacture as 1967 and date of first reg 1980.Its on Historic vehicle taxation class already.Here's a few pics of the rotten back end.
