Well, I have got meself into a position whereby I am forced to sell the disco.
have progressively got hacked orf with the taxman continuosely shafting me in one way or another, so I decided to go out and buy a new motor that is for "company" use, not a company car or owt, cause he'll stick one right up me then, but a commercial vehicle that he can subsidise. I am due to take delivery of a VW T5 Sportline Kombi, 174 bhp in pearl black. Its got side sliding door, and rear tailgate and seats 5, so yes Mr Taxman, it is going to be used in our transport business and no, its not going to be used for days out with the mrs and the two dogs, and no it aint going to tow the caravan either, honest guv!!
But, she has cottened on to me and suggested in the nicest possible way that if I sell the disco, that would give us some money to do the house up, and who am I to disagree, after all, I'm in charge...when she aint in. (plus I'm up to 2.4k spend on a new engine for me '63 VW splitscreen bus) which she thinks has cost me £600 so far) so I should play ball really.
Anyhow, got to get taking some snaps and get it in the trader, will be a sorry day but hey ho, still got the S3 and will still frequent this forum, if I'm allowed!!

Yeah its a tough market out there at the moment, I asked the main stealer how much mine would be worth, he thought I was trying to part ex it and said "not a lot, I'll put it into auction". Then I sad that I just wanted a rough guide about how much to pitch in a private sale so he went on his computer onto their "stealer only" price guides, glass's guide and another one, he was shocked when he discovered that Glass's had the trade at £6420 and retail at £8845 and the other one had trade at £5850 and retail at £8925. Just goes to show how these dealers try to turn us over! He didnt realise a discovery would be worth that much, but saying that, its just getting that much for it thats the hard bit. I suppose the way to sell is not to expect top dollar but to price it sensibly.....lovely car though with all the features you'd want from a car, but alas, the taxman is backing us all into a corner with the ved and fuel costs, so I'm going to try getting some back.

Glass's and anyother car pricing guide is taking the **** at £8K+ for a 2001 Disco £6k might be more realistic. Buy a used LAND ROVER DISCOVERY Car - Auto Trader UK

To be honest any Disco after March 2001 is worth less every day as people are bailing out.

Great time to buy, horrible time to sell. I reckon a tidy low mileage post mar 2001 is worth about £4000. Look what they actually go for on Ebay, then you'll see.

Good luck to all sellers,

Dave

You aint wrong, I dont know where they get their prices from, updated every month regardless.
The problem is that lots of people are bailing out which floods the market and drags the price down. You only have to look at 2002 onward range rovers, you can pick up a real peach now for 12k upwards:eek:

my mates got an 01 es td5, paid 8k last year now gettin offers of 3,500 for it. i couldnt believe it. he wants me to give him my 1994 300tdi es for it an a grand, fookin excellent an im so tempted just the tax goin up i refuse to pay

I paid £ 9800 for a really tidy " 52 " GS with leather in Feb. I wouldnt expect to get £ 6000 for it now !.

I,m really not sure if the Gov. will go thruogh with this insane retrospective tax grab, as it will affect far more than just 4x4 drivers !.
Nearly £ 38 per month is a lot for road tax !.

Just by way of caution paulypaul, are you sure your kombi will be classed as a " commercial vehicle ".

I,m on a VW forum, and theres been a lot of comment about T5 " kombi,s " getting badly caught by the new rules .

Yeah I've checked that out before I even started looking. The tax is
£210 a year, but the beauty from putting it through the company is that I can claw back vat on fuel, services, consumables etc etc (which is darn handy when I need owt for me split) although I have to be carefull that the tax man twigs that a 2008 VW kombi aint aircooled.
