I rebuilt this box a few years ago, and finally got to put it into a car when I rebuilt the Lightweight. I've had a persistent leak ever since, but it's suddenly got a lot worse, prompting to lift the floors and tunnel for a peek. The seals were all new, but maybe old stock. Anyone else suffered this, and how did you fix it? The selector ball spring brackets are a bit of a rubbish way to hold them on, but I can't think of a good fix, short of ramming more stuff in..

If you look carefully at the top pic you'll see that I had the brackets on the wrong sides. Doesn't make a lot of difference as it turned out because they're rigid, no sign of any rubberiness at all. Luckily I've got some hose just the right size, so made up some nice soft ones a few mm longer, and sticking them in with rtv. Not sure what to do about the front ones yet.
 
It's the brackets really, they don't come down far enough. These are the new seals trying to escape. The plan was to rebuild and replace the original boxes, so I'll do that, and make some better brackets when it's on the bench. I'll slap a bit more rtv around these and call it good enough for its last ever MoT...

are you sure the retaining brackets are fitted on the right sides or if they are they are offset a little ,when fitting them start both bolts nip slightly and square bracket up an towards box with a hammer before fully tightening
 
Hi James, yes, the right way round now. And again yes, did the hammer taps with them pinched up. My new designs will go deeper down the sides of the box, and have slotted holes to let me squeeze them up more easily.

My doubt about the hose that I've used is that I'll bet it wasn't oil friendly. Hey ho.
