Hi now I have my 1995 p38 started I'm going through the faults that need fixing. First Is message on dash that says select neutral. Note whilst in park in high the P is lit up and the 3 on 3rd us also luminated. When started if I try the sequence to shift to neutral and then low no symbol on dash which there should be and no lights on gear selector on low range side. If this makes any sense does anyone have any ideas ?

i know it might sound daft, but have a look and see if there is a fuse in slot 11 under the drivers seat. if there is, remove it. its a system that lets the vehicle be towed and puts the trans box in neutral. might be worth looking there first.

Could be the Gear Selection switch (the XYZ Switch) giving false lever position information, or the lever assembly itself.

Morning Saint
I've seen this car and thought the same but whilst the dash is saying 'select neutral' the light alongside the high range 3 is flashing. I've never seen this before.

It is saying select neutral because the ECU thinks it is in a drive gear whilst trying to change ratio....if the XYZ switch is giving false lever position the Select Neutral message will appear when trying to change ratio....and if not trying to change ratio and the 3 is lit while in Park and the lever in the High range position, this could indicate a fault with the Lever Assembly cable adjustments as Datatek says....

Also Datatek - where's Wammers post or do you mean me?? if you do I am honoured to be confused with such a great man!!:D
