second hand radiator damage

hi guys,

im hoping you can tell me if thisis worth keeping. i brought a radiator for my p38 for a reputable breakers (j the range you know the 1)

whilst he said it was in very good condition it turned up dirty and what i would call in crappy condition. i dont mind cleaning it up . not a problem it the hole in the middle of the unit im wondering about. about an inch width and 1 row worth of fins is completely missing. questions:

will this effect the operation of the radiator?
do i need to send it back and ask for another one?
is it repairable?

i guess i already know the answer but it would be good to have some confirmation from the more experienced members

It depends on how much you paid for it and will it work - if it has been repaired in the past (and they took out a row for the repair) then I would have thought it could be used, but how would you test it???

i would ring him up and tell him, or take it up to him and get a replacement..

exactly. how do you test a radiator without installing it in the engine?

can i attach hose at one end and see if the flow is ok?? or is there another test i can run?

only thing i can think of, block one end and put hose on the other. but you wont get the presure up like you do on the car..

J ive spoken to them and they are going to send out a replacement to be with me by friday. not bad service.

now that would be nice but they want me to send the 1st one back......never mind.

i did also ask for a heater matrix a massive box turned up i unpacked it and thought this isnt the little shiney matrix ists big and black and plasticy...

they had sent me the whole blower unit with the matrix inside!!! thats a keeper !!

i took the matrix out and although its a little worn in places im sure it will clean up....so i have the same questions as i had for the rad. is there a way of checking it before it goes into the car? i.e. for leaks etc.

well new one turned up.....looks in great condition. no damage to any of the fins etc. im going to hook it up to a water hose pipe in the garden and test for flow and blockages .

bloody good service from them. they overnighted it to me!!!

Dont mess about with second hand stuff for the cooling system, false economy.

Take it to a rad repair shop and ask them to pressure test it, simples.
