Seatbelts in series 3

afaik you don't have to have them if they weren't originally fitted but mandatory front belt fitting came in late sixties and was made retrospective for cars built '65 on

just while we're at it, in a series 3 single cab, would there be a different type of seatbelt in the middle to the others? mine has a random type of seatbelt in the middle and was just wondering if it was like this from orginal....also what sort of condition does the actual belt have to be in to pass your mot in uk??

depends when it was made I think, originally the mandatory fitting of front belts didn't include the middle seat iirc then it only needed to be a lap belt not 3 point

I had a 2005 truck cab that only had a lap belt on the middle seat so they were still doing it relatively recently.
The belt have to be in good condition with no fraying or cuts.

ok, that makes sense, its a lap belt, but there isnt any similarities between the fittings on that and the outside ones, which made me wonder if it was not factory...
yep ok, ill check them all sometime, from memory they were a very faded brown but not any cuts or fraying....would uv damage be a reason for failure?

yep, they seem fine condition apart from the colour....
thanks.....yeh there is but they dont have an online thing like you guys have for your MOT - like the link you just sent me. Basically you either get a pre Warrant of Fitness (WOF) check, and they tell you whats wrong with it, or else you send it in for the WOF, and if it fails they let you know all the probs....either way costs money, - if you know the WOF tester or similar you can get advice and help, but if you dont have the links its a bit hard.....

hang on im slightly wrong there..... just had a bit of time looking around, they went online at the end of 2012......but hey still dont have the same level of detail and explanation as well as method of testing like the uk ones....

do you have to get a annual mot or whatever its called in NZ, over here in queensland australia once the vehicle is registered that's it never do we have to see anyone to get a mot, there can be some terrible cars getting around here, and because they have their rego they can still drive around, on rare occasions if a car looks real bad the cops would issue a unroadworthy ticket, but then again only if you are real unlucky you'll get caught,
as for belts cause my car never had belts in, when i got it registered i had belts in it, but they were ****, so i got Proton centre rear lap belts fitted just like new they are and the only cost me about $20.

all we do here is say get an old vehicle and do it up and check all the steering brakes and suspension, make sure it does not have rot i.e rust holes, and looks ok, then the mechanic will issue us with a road worthy certificate, then we go around to the main roads depot, and get the lady to check all the numbers and match them up with the existing ones from when it was last registered, and bam, all done, we get rego and the plates on the spot.

we dont have any testing done after that no exhaust emissions nothing once it on the road thats it you good for life.

then i hear how tough it can be in england, having annual checks and they check for emissions, we are way back in the past then you guys, so could say we are like people say, from the great southern land.
but honestly there is no way i could stand having to have some annual check done, i dont know why you's have them, maybe you wet climate and more rot in metal.

sh1t!!! - that is so easy!!
over here you have to get a WOF every six months for the older cars (theres a cut off year) and every year for the newere ones!!
no emmisions over here but hell your making me feel very hard done by......
what about engine conversions, is the anything like a low volume certifier that checks any engine conversion/mod's done to the car??
and as far as seatbelts go over here, they are actually reasonably tight, no fraying or extreme fading:confused:, and the mounts have to be a certain standard as well.
but ill do what i can/ think makes it roadworthy and then take it in and see what happens!!

yes we do have to get a person to over look engine mods and then the vehicle is given a mod plate, and its pop-riveted under the bonnet, i know some countries there is no regulations on what you do to your car as long as its not going to endanger people.
i think in places where theres not much regulation you just have to keep an eye out when driving,
if i wish we had less regs as i would have a custom tank in the rear strapped down well, or even a shortened 200 drum strapped down with a electric pump mounted on the top, and hey how about a turret hole cut in the roof with a large 50 cal automatic gun.

or this

yeh ok that makes a bit more sense....in america they are allowed to do a lot before they arent allowed on the road, the roadkill tv show is pretty awesome!! - the stuff they do to the car and then get to drive it around is crazy...
yep why not go all out!! - if ya got the money.... i would just drive mine as is and slowly get better bits, upgrade whenever i need to....dont have the money to do a full on project like that yet!!!

yeah thats the best, just do bits at a time, that way you'll have stuff to do, as i have said once before in the 11 years ive owned mine, im still doing stuff to it,
over here many people have started up a craze of using clearance lights on the roof like trucks, i got the idea for running clearance lights on my from looking at a mercedes benz NG 2286 truck.
