Seat bolster cracking but unsure of material???

Hi,

I have a 2004 td4 auto which has served us well the last 4 years. It's probably one of the best examples imho. Not many miles on it either

But a couple of niggles have started .

The drivers seat bolster has started to wear fine cracks. It's not leather but like an expensive vinyl like material. Very nice and would like to keep it that way. Does anybody know what material these seats are and if they can be repaired.


Also while I am on. Giys at the car wash broke my side step and in all fairness after 10 years there it was going to happen after looking at it. Mechanic said it had sheared off and would be hard to weld back as there wasn't much to weld to.

Anybody and advice on either would be great

What model of freelander is it?
Probably 1/2 or even full leather seats, auto trimmer could repair.
Side steps steel frame probably rusting away, my 11 year old Disco is the same, will need a bit of refabrication with 1" box steel and the mig or arc welder when I get a chance!

hi, thanks for the reply. ok i took some photos of the seats so you get an idea. definitely not leather but beautiful seats. more like a vinyl (but that makes them sound cheap)

Ah I see, thats similar to what was used in the G4 edition Discoverys.
Its a vinyl made to be easily cleaned and closely resembles leather seatss. I really cant imagine how that could be repaired in a satisfactory manner. I would think an auto trimmer could remove and replace the bolster sections with new material. Maybe a closely matching black leather would work on the hard wearing drivers side bolsters?
Have a search for auto trimmers in your local area and go and have a chat or maybe somebody on here could recommend someone to you?
A wanted ad for an identical seat from a breaker? but again any that are going to be broken, unless they are low mileage accident damaged are likely to be just as bad if not worse than yours.
