The engine is the same basic design between the SDV6 and TDV6, it's a Ford Lion engine designated AJD-V6 for LR and Jaguar vehicles. It's available in 2.7L and 3.0L capacity. It's also used by PSA as part the the Gemini parts sharing agreement, when it's designated as DT17 for 2.7L variants, and DT20 for the 3.0L variant.

The only differences are engine capacity, pistons, cam timings, and the fueling and boost systems.

The original TDV6 was first seen in the D3 as a 2.7L version, with Siemens common rail injection and a single turbocharger.
When the D4 arrived, some continued to use the 2.7L and some used the 3.0L version, with Bosch common rail injection and twin sequential turbochargers .
Power output varies depending on engine specification, but the original 2.7L of the D3 had 188 BHP and 440Nm of torque. The latest 3.0L version has over 300 BHP, and some 700Nm of torque. There are several power outputs between these two extremes, depending on vehicle and specification.
