I bought the car a 65 plate 2013 model Range Rover sport SDV6 306 in Dec 2018 with 22000 miles on it, from Milton keynes dealer with 2 years approved used warranty just been serviced and had yet another oil change (every 6,000 miles!) Driving into london engine started with what seems to be missing very so often vibrating the car. No warning lights so carried on as it came and went intermittently.
After a further 10 miles noises came form what seems to be the exhaust as though it had blown a hole in it, but then very soon power was dropping and a red oil can light came up along with red battery light so turned off the approach to the Dartford tunnel and limped to a shell forecourt where it juddered to a noisy stop. tried the key to move it a bit forward out the way, but the engine just rocked and rattled and the battery died.
Long story short Landrover assist via AA came scratched their head and called recovery. The dealer where the car was shipped back to confirmed a new engine was required and the warranty didn't cover it so they applied to LR direct as its a known issue they would replace the engine as its a known issue re the crankshaft bearings slipping.
I have been give a car to use and the dealer will be replacing the engine over the next few weeks. The car has 36000 miles on it.
