Well the old girl's been running great for 5 months now. Until Sunday. Went to start it and no go. Engine spun over no problems but not a hint of starting. Bonnet up, fuses out, relays out, battery cables checked, HT leads checked, no smell of fuel, no smell of burning, everything looked in order. Still wouldn't start. Rang the RAC and a nice young fella came out and checked the same things I checked. Still no joy. He started arranging a tow truck so I thought I would just give it another try.... and bugger me it started. Purred like a kitten. So I drove it to work and left it there. Tried it next morning and no way would it start.
During the day I tried it several times and it would either start or not start. Couldn't figure it out. Anyway, to cut a long story short I decided to get a new CPS (crank position sensor). Found one for £42 inc shipping, brand new at AP Land in Wimbledon. Arrived 2 days later. Fitted it and it works a treat.
When I got the old one off the plastic "ears" were broken so it would have been rattling around it it's housing. It's a wonder it worked at all.
So, yet again the old girl has cheated the scrap man. Can't wait to see what she has in store for me next.
