Morning!
How's it going? I'm Tom from Wigan.
New to posting, but have been reading the forum for sometime.

Just bought myself a Y reg 1.8 3dr Freelander.

Have had a keen interest in Land Rovers since I was a lad, spotted this when I was in need of a car.
Not too shonky for £500. Needed a bloody good wash and a bit of TLC but drives great.
It's had the head gasket done, and has been converted to 2wd, so most of the major problems have been sorted.
Looking to get it back to 4wd in the coming months when funds allow.
Then to use it as a parts car/test bed for a future purchase of a TD4, as the 1.8 isn't great for the miles I do.

Welcome to the funny farm. Hope its a good intro to Landies for you. It may have had the HG replaced - but look after it and maintain it well, or you'll need another one.

You don't want to be driving on dry sand to much in a 2WD. The TC will help a little bit - but you will get stuck very quickly. A castrated Freelander has castrated abilities!

With the 4WD reinstated, it will be awesome - but don't push your limits/luck to much till then!

Welcome.
Don't buy a TD4 in the hope of massive Mpg gains. The TD4 is generally better than the 1.8 on fuel but not by much. It will take a long time to offset the extra purchase cost in fuel savings.
Just enjoy Freelandering ;)

Cheers for the welcomes.

It's well loved and will be looked after greatly, the missus isn't very happy because I'm spending more time with the car than her at the moment hah.
I can well imagine! Should only be next month hopefully when I get the cash available to sort some new props and VCU for it. Until then it's just my usual plodding along the motorway.
It hasn't got any TC at the moment, suffering from those three pretty little lights on the dash. I've ordered new brake light switch, due this week. Just swapped the ABS sensors on the front, which cleared the brake warning light which was also lit. Hoping that'll cure them.

Cheers for the info there Nodge, wasn't going to be changing any time soon, would just eventually prefer a diesel anyway.
Enjoying it very much so far, just starting on the list of things I want to get done on it.
Next on the list, hopefully by the end of the week, is a Raspberry PI connected to a screen in my stereo. Have a GPS module for in dash sat nav, and an OBD-II bluetooth module to install too. Then the list goes on haha.

But if you buy a pre 2000 diesel it'll be the Rover L Series and should be good for up to an additional 10 MPG over the petrol - offset by tax/fuel costs - unless you mix veggie oil in with it!

It should also be more reliable - although finding low millage ones is getting more difficult (at least here anyway).

Hi Tom,

Car looks great, you've got best part of £200 in roof bars, side steps and light guards alone, think you've made a good buy :cool2:
