hi folks
I have a small question: what kind of sand plates are more suitable to us in the desert?
I find to types, the aluminum classic style and some new, like a rope ladder, which are much cheaper?
thx

Hello!

The Alu ones are very light and can be strapped to roofracks etc. I think they weight in at 2kg. some HD versions at 4kg.

The problem (i have heard) with the roll up versions is that they do just that... you apply the power and they start to bunch up providing less grip and in the end less room for grip.

If you use your vehicle in the mud alot (like here in the UK) then a set of waffle boards would allround be a better choice. they weight more than the alu ones but you get more use out of them because you can use them here back home to.

Is there much mud in Romania?

If its just for the desert, i would go for a pair of alu ones. If your not a solo vehicle, i doubt that you will use them anyway, but better to be safe than sorry!

As said before the roll up ones roll up all the time.
I use the alu ones as they also make great benches on a log or some jerry cans.

matt savage had pairs at billing for £90. check the website for the usual price. I am taking the waffle boards to Western Sahara with me as i allready have 4 of these :)

Ooh yur can't do that Griff. I was told orf for calling waffles sandtracks. According to the prick who works for Devon 4x4 and is an admin on mudclub. Waffles are completely useless on sand  and you need to buy their traxmats or whatever they call em. Also if you're waffles int from Devon 4x4 They'll be flooring grids and no good anyway..

Of course me pointing out that flooring grid waffles are good enough for anything any offroader could want and D4x4 Waffles cost 3 times what every fooker else charges. Had nothing to do with him closing the thread and threatening to ban me from MudClub if I brought the subject up again. :D :D :D

Mantec do them, but they are expensive too. MOD stuff is good, but those track mats are mega heavy. we have 3m ones at work and they are monsters! if you want to go cheap, i think waffles will suit you fine and double up as bridging ladders/traction boards here in the UK (or other muddy climates :) ) too

Hmm I would like to see a "waffle board" or whatever else they are called in person - could probably copy the design and make it myself - especially at those prices above!

waffles are as cheap as you like. i did a best offer on ebay and got 2 pairs for a good price. then i posted the info on here and a few people got them even cheaper!

worth a look.

You mean the plastic Tracmat ones? £35 + £15 postage is not too bad - or did you pay less than that? Would those cheapie ones take the weight of a Land Rover fully laden OK do you think?

standard 38's at the time, because the additional weight didnt seem worth it. but now i have a fully loaded 90, maybe i should have gone for the 50's! anyway, as i have 4 i could double them up if needed to bridge a gap. i would wait and see if more best offer ones come up or source the flooring grid people from elsewhere, not sure if redhand is on the case for finding his own from a cheap supplier.

The response group I'm involved in is looking to put a bulk order in If they do I'll start taking order on here..

Or if enough people wanted a set on here I could approach a supplier direct and negotiate a discount off him. & we could use the LZ Curryier service to get them delivered to peeps.
