Salisbury Axle brake swap?

Sorry if this has been done before but I couldnt find what I needed from a search.
I have a '97 Defender 110 with a salisbury axle and disk brakes The diff is very worn and I have obtained another Sailsbury axle from an earlier model 110. The exchange part has actually done less milage than my own and i have the opportunity to clean and paint it before putting it in. The axle that I have sourced had drum brakes and what I want to know is if I can swap the disks off my current axle and replace the drums with them? and if so what is involved.

What is worn on the axle to need a change out????

When the rear axle is jacked up and the wheels are off I can turn the hub nearly half a turn before it engages the diff. There is a massive clunking and backlash between every gear change.
Before last year I had never changed a set of break pads so I thought swapping axles would be an easier option than for me to start playing with diffs which would be way beyond my current knowledge.

Ok! IMO It seems you lack in skills, you will learn in time this is OK. What I would do is have them fit it as IMO would be cheaper in the long run. Because you will run into additional expense's that you haven't thought of , you always do. Could be something as simple as a pinion bearing or a loose pinion retaining nut.
