sagging rear step

Hi, my rear step is permenantly in the "down" position and I need a new "hydrolic/gas thingy" to repair it. As I dont know the actual name for the part im after im finding it hard to do a search for one, can anyone please tell me what the part im after is actually called and /or more importantly where to get a replacement? cheers .

Thats a good price. I searched all over for one for mine and ended up paying over a hundred quid from the main dealer. Note of caution.. The D2 piston is slightly different length from D1. I read that on a thread weeks ago.

Ive got a ram that came off mine if you want it.

Wawaweewa! theyre quite pricey, I was expecting about 20 squids, Has anyone on this forum got a spare one they would be willing to swop for beer tokens? pretty please doesnt matter if its 2nd hand just as long as it works.

If not do you think its worth getting one from a breakers? Or even would a damper from a disco2 step fit I found one on ebay for half the price:

If anyone has removed the whole step I may be willing to buy the whole thing as my step is looking a bit tatty. Cheers.

I have been thinking of replacing mine as it failed a few months ago, been looking for a cheap one.

The part for the D2 is KVL100040 and the cheapest I found a new one for was £28.85 from shardlow4x4parts although that might have changed now with vat going up.

Going to keep looking....

Thats a much better price! I knew somebody must do a generic strut that would fit rather than having to use one with a LR part number
