S3 Heater Cowling

This is not the most interesting post but nevertheless just to say I got sorted with an original spec heater cowling including the bracket that the motor sits on for £110 including vat and postage from Robert Owen Engineering. A really helpful guy who also runs a landy. He does bulkheads. Good quality workmanship. :p

Don't bother with a new one. Go to plumbers or builders merchant and buy "Flashband" it is like tin foil with tar on. Cut it and mould it to your frayed and rusted case, warm it so it sticks and it will provide the air tight cover you need. You also have the advantage it will never rust again. Mine has been like that for some 15 years and it still works perfectly.

Thanks for the. I had that thought about trying a filler material that could do as you describe. Unfortunately, the cowling was so corroded it had collapsed altogether. I'll bear that in mind though. Thanks

Think you miss my point. Flashband is more like a flexible plastic sheet than a spreadable filler. It does not need the metal case for support and it will stick to the remnants of the original case and itself allowing you to cut and bend to build the shape you need. As long as the corrosion has not got up, as far as the support brackets you will not have a problem

Mine was so far gone that wouldn't have worked, nothing left of it apart from one third of the flange.

Is it hole free (apart from the necessary ones:)) and strong apart from the surface rust?
Is it for sale? mine is repairable but if yours is not too expensive it will be a lot less hassle to refurb yours
Cheeers

No rust holes as far as I remember, just a bit scruffy. I'll look it out this afternoon, take some pics and if tis any good to you it'll just cost ya the postage.

Legend thanks.

No extra holes or thin spots, just need a rub and a lick of paint.

PM me an address and I'll take it down the PO
