So, landy hadn’t been used for a week. Fired up fine and went into town, enough to warm up engine, but it cut out on me when parking, had the side lights on. Journey about 2 miles. After sitting parked for 20 minutes I switched the ignition, totally dead, no ignition or battery light. Wifey came with vehicle and jump leads. Started okay but as soon as I hit the side lights it cut out. Tried to leave it charging, totally dead after 5 minutes. Last week I put in a new relay for the headlights. Could this be related? Me thinks not. Any ideas? Solenoid, short somewhere?. Solenoid, alternator, coil, starter motor all new. I think it’s something basic like an earthing problem.

Check it doesn't have a bulbholder fault to earth . Make sure all the main earths from battery to chassis and engine are clean, secure and sound - take off and remake. You can't have too many earths on a series.

Are the battery terminals clean and tight? I have no end of problems with my series sidelights, they don't drain the battery but they have a mind of their own when it comes to working. I don't have any relays and I'm not a fan of them for standard series electrics.
