S2a / 3 swb shocks

Hi guys
Whilst i've got the rear wheels off and rear brakes stripped off ready for the rear disc brake conversion i've decided to replace all 4 std shocks ( parabolic springs fitted ) i know they arn't really the right shocks for these springs but i already had the shocks in the garage and the landy already had std springs that i already fitted before i ended up owning the landy i was restoring and later when i took the restoration on for my self i replaced the std springs for GME parabolic springs and fitted the shocks but after running these shocks for just over a year the shocks arn't that comfy with parabolics springs so i have now decided to fit BP cellular dynamic shocks, i was going to go for the procomp es3000's but after looking at reviews on the shocks i decided to go for the BP dynamic's so i once they are fitted i will let you know how they are

When you say the shocks were not that comfy, do you mean the ride was too hard or too bouncy?

Sorry too hard, it probably doesn't help as i live in a built up area that has loads of speed bumps everywhere of mixed types which makes it more noticable so i think the shocks are being fully stretched ( expaned ) after going over them.

Speed bumps seem to really jar my LWB. Worse than any off road track. Mine is on std springs and I think its hitting both springs at the same time that does it,

Mine's SWB, but I'm pretty sure that even at slow speeds, the rear wheels are leaving the ground on some speed bumps. I think the suspension rate is just tuned completely wrongly for speed bumps.

I think when LR calculated the rate for the leaf springs they did so assuming the vehicle would be carrying a load cos when mine has heavy stuff in it, the speed bumps don't feel half as bad.

Even in my 90 I find if you can contact the speed bump with one wheel first there is less effect.

Yes that's what i found but other than the spare, 1x bench seat, a small tool box and small trolley jack the landy is normally empty so speed bumps and bumps on the road can make it quite hard.

The other thing I noticed with mine was when I first got it, it had been sitting in a barn for a few years with virtually no use, the springs were rusted and more like girders but after using it a fair bit they loosened up and became noticeably springier.

Yeah the ones on major side roads near me are the ones that go the full width of the road sometimes are at different hights and the ones that go through the estate are mainly the ones where there are two speed bumps oposite one another so if a car is parked either infront or behind and half on road and half on curb you have no option but to hit them both together

Just been informed that my shocks have arrived, i'm still in work till 10pm so will post pic's later

I will measure them later both open and clossed

Pic of the rear shocks, the old shocks fully closed measure 14" end to end and fully open they measure 211/2"end to end.
The new shocks fully closed measure 16" end to end and fully open they measure 241/2" end to end.
I don't have the old fronts off yet but will be swapping the shocks over the weekend so i will post measurements then.

Oh and the new shocks come with polly bushes rather than rubber.

With your replacement shocks make sure your bump stops are in good order, with the new longer shocks if no bump stop the shock will bottom out before axle hit chassis which is what happens with standard ones. Some like to fit extended polly stops.
