Hi - haven't posted for while but now in need of advice again! I've taken the plunge and started a complete back to chassis rebuild of the S2. She looks like chitty chitty bang bang after a night on the meths at the moment. Bulkhead is out on the bench and needs new door pillars and footwells. Can anyone recommend any decent replacement parts? Horror stories abound about panels which are an inch too short!

I would also construct a frame/jig for the bulkhead before you start removing footwells and door pillars. With that much removed and the heat of welding distortion can occur. This is not so much of an issue when they are repaired on the vehicle.

Thanks Andy. I'd thought about knocking up a jig out of angle to help keep it all straight and I think it's probably the way to go (especially as I've got another old S2 bulkhead that I'd like to patch up after this one). Any ideas as to who makes the best replacement parts? Cheers Lard

Thanks Andy. Their footwell looks a lot better than some I've seen. It doesn't have the rolled bottom plate but it looks sound. I think I'll give it a go. Cheers Lard

Cheers Dopey. I'd seen these before but been a bit wary of ebay specials. If you've actually seen them and they're good I'll go for a pair.

I don't suppose you have a line on wing front panels for S2 do you (just the small square ones at the front)? Previous hooligan owner has butchered these for S3 look. Currently a pop riveted plate hides the damage but it offends me! Nobody seems to make these and if they don't I think I can look forward to some TIG sunburn!

When it comes to fitting the footwells my plan was to find the spot welds, drill them out and unpick the seams with the bulkhead then clamp in the new ones and mig away. Any views? PS The spot welds are proving hard to find - are they just held together by some weird midlands magic?

Ok the front panels are still gettable again at a price, i managed a long time back to get the very early ones with the one hole in, but there like hens teeth now and i don't know where you would find them, if you are going for real originality, but maybe Dunsfold or
LR Centre Ltd

Land Rover Centre, or Orphanage ???

Thanks Dopey. I rang Dunsfold but they only had onside and they were £50 odd each. I'll ring Craddock's tomorrow and see if we're all talking about the same panel. I'm just going to ebay now to buy those footwells!

Try LR series. they are very cheap and very reliable. and the proprietors dad runs Blanchards ex MOD landy emporium which is just across the road from their unit. so they can usually find you any part you might need.

Thanks all. I've ordered the ebay footwells and also replacement door pillars and feet from MM4x4. With a bit of luck all will be here by the end of next week (MM are waiting for stock) and I get get started. When the new BH is refurbed I'll transfer over all the fittings from the old bh. After that I just pick another dodgy bit and start again!! (I don't want to take the axles off as I've got to move it to a new workshop in July so I'm planning to have a crack at the steering next). I'm hoping that the chassis is salvagable and that a new one galvo one isn't necessary right now. I certainly need to replace everything forward of the front crossmember and legs so I may be delusional! Still......the S3 is in fine fettle!
