Yup, welding SS (Inox as it is called here) is a bit of a bugger without a TIG.
For small jobs though, it is perfectly possible to use a stick welder with coated SS rods. I did this plenty of times when we lived aboard our 'yott'.
Good finish too. !.. If you can stick weld normal metal you can do a pretty good job on stainless. Great for adding brackets etc. I have a lightweight 120A inverter welder that does the job well. Inverter units are great as you can pick them up with one finger - as opposed to the HUGE transformer lumps

thought the welding on this was exceptional , extremely neat and tidy and could tell he took a lot of pride in his work
the only type of welding , well if u can call it that is lead welding , for flashings etc
did try arc welding many years ago, was welding an outrigger on my triumph vitesse , but being young and I experianced found out the hard way not using goggles , my eyes hurt like hell for weeks after , hospital really told me off as I wore contact lenses , oooppppssss
is it the tig welders that are multipurpose and can be used to multiple applications, I've chassis etc

No welding needed as I have chosen the parts carefully. All I need to do is clamp the sections together, once I've cut the 90° pipe to the correct length and trimmed the end to a nice angle.

good idea with regards to just using a clamping system , cheaper and easier than having to weld
would u be so kind to post some pictures up please when it's all fitted

Ready made bits would suit me well. Last year I had my pacemaker replaced with an implanted defibrillator so no more electronic welding for me.

I used to fabricate my own exhaust systems and always used slip joints and clamps. Except for manifolds, which were welded together. I prefer slip joined exhaust systems as it's easier to replace damaged parts.

I could probably knock together some clamp together kits if there was enough interest.
They would be adjustable in situ and cheaper then a welded version.

Just out of curiosity what sort of money would you be talking about. TBH at this stage I'm only doing the minimum to get the car on the road and more importantly off it so will probably just bash something together if the rear box becomes a problem.

I'll work out a cost when I've got mine sorted. But off the top of my head, it would work out to around £110 with postage.

That's not much more than the cost of a cheapo standard exhaust. I think if you could make that happen you'd have quite a few customers. Just make sure you make a wee bit of profit on it and you won't mind if lots of people come hassling you for them.
