Hi folks, I'm new here, i have however owned a 99 td5 defender 90 for just over 2 years its my first land rover and i love it to bits, great truck, i decided basically i wanted to spend a few quid, buy a nice newish 90 treat it for rust and keep it forever, this is what i have done, i pick up my 09 defender 90 on friday, can i have some thoughts please on rust prevention treatments, i know about waxoyl, its the first thing i did on my td5, but is it really the best ?? what are the alternatives, thanks in advance, Andy (wolverhampton)

Hi and welcome.

If you do a search on the forum you will find a number of posts on this issue. It seems there are fans of waxoyl (and those that think it's not so good); fans of dinitrol (and not) and them various other wax/paint fans.

For myself, I prefer a solid rust free base (treated with rust preventative paint if need be) and then covered with Waxoyl. Also waxoyl for internal cavities. The key is good preparation before appplication and then through meticulous application. But I might be wrong and only time will tell.

Thanks for that, the new truck is mint as it stands, so i plan to get stuck in as soon as i get it home, i always thought that waxoyl was "the" product, but as you say some people don't, just wondered why,
