My lad’s 2008 Defender swb station wagon has rust coming through at the seam joint on both sides as shown below. The seam join is just below the cab back at the front end of the side window (hope that makes sense!). Does anyone have experience of this? How best to repair please? Taking the cab off is a bit more involved than for my series 3 cab! Thanks. Binks

Looks like cappings to me as well.
Top off to remove them, sandblast and galv if they are ok otherwise new as already said.

looking at the photos if you blast those there will be a big hole rather than clean metal! As already take the side panels out, drill out all the rivets and remove the cappings. Then replace with new one, preferably galvanised. It is possible to just take out the side panels without removing the roof depending on which you think will be easier there is enough flex to just lift the back and slide the sides out.. I did this with my 110 when I replaced my cappings because I was working on my owns and therefore could not lift the whole roof and side panels off.

It may be more involved than a series but only because you have to remove the roof lining to get to the bolts. Other than that is is exactly the same. Just makes sure you have new plastic Christmas trees to replace the roof lining.
