Hi all, going to be picking the brains of everyone on here over the next couple of months... (apologises in advance) I’ve been told that in the picture below, to get sheet metal welded over the rust is this right or do I go about it a different way. Thanks everyone

Get some overalls on and goggles hit it with a angle grinder with flappy disk n see for yourself what the damage is then sit back with a cold beer and asses the situation

With time and enthusiasm allot can be repaired on Landys with a welder but you must draw a line when structural integrity is at risk

Yer of course I just don’t trust taking it to a garage when they will just want to make a quick buck. Just don’t know enough about the chassis myself

The D2 chassis keeps on giving..holes.

while you are down there check the front of the chassis where it starts to go from the centre flat section to the front suspension the area where it raises up, give that a poke.

Also poke behind the shock mounts in that triangular mount. Plus if you ever remove the airbags , poke a hole in the chassis behind them.

Cheers

Will do thanks for the advice appreciate it. If it’s not a complete rust bucket underneath that doesn’t need completely replacing it is it worth getting it all coated up in rust protection paint ? Thanks

The D2 is a great motor, but somehow LR managed to give the chassis the rust issue.

If the rest of the chassis is good get it repaired and treat it, but eventually it will go pope. Depending on the age and the rest of it, only you can say if it is worth doing.

Cheers

Yes it is a shame they scrimped on the chassis, thanks again for the help i will be posting pictures over the next couple of months with updates of how it’s going fingers crossed it’s worth salvaging.

Anything is worth saving have a look at my thread on here 1997 discovery 1 300tdi complete rebuild it all comes down to how brave you are and your knowledge of metal and welding at the end of the day plus every one on here is more than helpful
Hi how do I see your thread I’m still new on here and working out how to get my way around the site. Thanks
