L322 Rust in the Range Rover (2010)

there is a link about this i put up a bit back,
apparently rr in their wisdom made the giant collander then only fitted 1 rear most wheel arch lip protector for each side of the rear arches,leaving the front to rot:(and spread and after time the protector that was there rots off.
that link shows how this can be remedied/improved, i think they use a freelander trim, but i got mine on the bay and replaced the entire arch with it.

mine is 05 has no rust, its about the best bit , see my posts on suspension:D
and they do rot,that screw and new hex bolt on the picture isnt right and i would want to see underneath it,looks too fresh, and jacking points rot, removing sill cover will show.


these cars look the biz and you can easily be swayed by your heart,
they are very capable but equally capable of emptying your wallet destroying home life and leaving you on a permanent downer,with the samaritans on speed dial on your phone, if you want one of these check everything works or take a friend who knows their many pit falls.

Don't bother with the Samaritans, I phoned them saying I felt suicidal and was put through to a call centre in Mumbai, the guy got very excited and asked if I could drive a lorry or fly a plane!!:oops::D

Well, can you? In these rona times you can't turn any opportunity down, furlough money is the same wage as Indian wages.... but it goes further

Well you have to admit its getting stupid now, you even have safety talks on the safety talks and everything has to be looked at and risk assessed, can't even take a pi** or a dump without some watching you do it, and counting how many sheets you use to wipe it

hi there
ive heard about the subframes rotting away but havent seen any pictures yet of them,
whilst at mercedes benz i did change many old w210 chassis and others, but they were almost a sacrificial part,
i mean the metal they were made of was shockingly thin,and the rangy seems heavy guage in comparrison, have you any more pics:)
 
What years are typically better on the rot front? Considering a very early Jag engined L322 mostly for its safety rating vs a D2 and lower price than a V8 D3.

If it had received some rust treatment this may not be anywhere quite so bad. the sills were welded 2years ago. the arches do not at present effect the MOT. the rear subframe had corroded on the outer mounting points and i suspect other early RR will be suffering the same now. So as long as your 2010 RR is not from Scotland then id think it would be good till 2027 and with care now a few years after that.

My 2002 has spent 11 of her 19 years in Scotland , near the coast. The other 8 she spent near the coast in England. She has had the rear wheel arches done once, and to be honest they weren't that bad, I'm just on things as soon as I see it. Which is why being unable to get the couple of bubbles that are showing now is really bugging me.
MoT wise she has had one fail , on a hole the size of a 5p. So I'm not really sure why you say " so long as it is not from Scotland".
Let's not forgot that nowhere in the UK is any further than 70 miles from the sea. However, all of the roads are gritted with the same stuff. Which combined with most people not cleaning their cars in the winter is more likely to be the cause of rust issues, than which country it spends it's time in.

I do not think it was a dig as scotland per se, more the fact it is more often cold/icey up there so the roads get more grit than the civilised end of the country:D
