For how long?
but yes put TB in difflock.
They still have diff lock in that year don’t they 🤔

Yes, that is so in that any time the front wheels spin faster than the rear [slippery surface] the viscous coupling in the shaft locks up sending drive to the rear axle
Problems come when coupling goes faulty, not working just no drive to rear but when seized will in time result in transmission damage so to save the cost of replacement folk just remove shaft/coupling and use car as normal front wheel drive car like yours.
I recon this bit should be in Freelander section.

You can do for short periods while either diagnosing issues or waiting for parts to arrive. It is not a long term solution to anything and should not be done for any reason other than the above.

Nope. You can drive like it until the end of time if you want. So much so there are now mods for the LT230 to give selectable 4wd or 2wd. Like Jeeps have.

Personally drove 700 miles back from Spain and another 2k to and from work while waiting for parts and time.

That said pretty sketchy to drive in the wet with 250hp and a shed ton torque ok 33" muds 🤣 surprised myself a few times at roundabouts 😂

Also quite a lot of RWD Defenders around now, not my style in the slightest but they exist and run without issue.

Is the transmission brake drum held on with the propshaft nuts? If so make sure you bolt it back on.

Yes. Put them back on!

People often remove props in the hope of improving MPG the improvement isnt worth it.

Jeeps (I believe) are rear wheel drive and standard not front wheel drive same as pickup trucks. And to do that you need the conversion kit not just unbolt the prop shaft. Running from whee drive is very different.

Really doesnt make a difference with the prop on or off. Not ideal but wont do any damage, driving characteristics will change though
