running without a viscous fan

How does the fan come off - is there any special tool required?

you can get a viscous fan spanner but a slim set of grips is fine.

you need to spin the fan nut clockwise. same direction as the pulley spins, to loosen it.

you need to get your grips on and then try to shock it off, unless you can successfully hold the pulley and then just use the force.
