insurance under £200 a year, running a 200tdi on filtered used veg oil at 70p a litre, getting just over 30mpg

lets be honest here. If you are after a "cheap" get around car its not a great one for it. comparitively high tax bracket, if you run it on normal diesel its expensive and unfortunately very desirable to the local scallys.

Running my TD5 on supermarket diesel costs around 25p per mile. £30 worth is just enough to do a 12 mile trip. My insurance wouldn't be typical as I never had a car for many years and as a result it's quite dear. But then if you want cheap transport you wouldn't get a Land Rover would you?

mines my every day motor 200tdi with pump turned up do's well on juice i can do a days laning in the peaks for less than £40

yep 5 years plus in various motors including my current motor for high mileage.. a 2.0 ltr pre td4 freeloader

There's a missing zero somewhere. 120 mile trip. Which gives us around 30 mpg, which is what most other people seem to get.
