Running Costs of Defender

Hi team landy,

So I'm in the market place for a new car soon and I'm thinking Landy 110 defender. Can afford the beast but looking into how much it's likely to cost me to insurance, fuel, tax, service etc.

If I was to get a 110 Defender 2.5 - how much for full tank and what mileage am I likely to get.

Insurance? Sure it's cheaper than my current Golf Gti!!

Servicing if VERY cheap! Do it your self.
Insurance - alot less than your GTI, But not the cheapest in the world
Fuel - About 28 MPG
Tax - As long as it is before 2001, £185.

75l tank in a 110, so you do the maths re cost - average about 25mpg - 32 on a long steady run

I do around 35 miles to and from work everyday. My golf is group 16 so I presuming it'll be less than that.

Tax is the same as my car now so no change there.

I think it's my wife I've gotta convince about this move to landrover. I've had new cars, I've had fast cars. I want a mans car now.

Don't wanna spend loads in buying one it's just the day to day running costs of it that worry me.

What's the cheapest defender to run do you think?

Is there a 2 litre TDI? or is 2.5 the smaller.

As for servicing it myself - no problem - I ain't got a clue but I wanna learn.

a proper landy isnt a car (unless it's a freelander)

if your worried about the running costs then a landy isnt for you, unless you dont mind a bit of DIY and late nights underneath it

well you know what I mean. Sorry if I upset you by referring to your vehicle as a car.

The reason I'm concerned about running costs is because I have no idea what they are, hence me asking the questions on here. Doesn't mean i shouldn't buy one - I'm sure you were concerned about the running costs of a house - doesn't mean you didn't buy one does it?

Once you've got a Landy mate you'll not care about running costs, the pleasure you get from driving one by far out weighs the running costs.
So a big :welcome2: from me and go out and get a Landy, if your wife gives you grief we'll deal with her for you. :caked:
