Ok three weeks since is happened to my car, it's done around two hundred miles now and still smoking from the exhaust ! A mixture of black/ greyish looking muck. I keep an eye on the oil level and it's not budged so it's not burning engine oil off. At first I thought it was improving but I think his was partly wishful thinking. Intercooler looks ok , oil clean etc ,no over heating or strange noises either. I figured it may be an air leak or be over fueling but wouldn't this show up on diagnostics?? I'm seriously loosing the love for this car as it appears to be turning into a large money pit. The car didn't lose much oil so it can't be still burning it off...another thought is could the cat be fubarred?? Any ideas before I sell the thing as a smoker and lose thousands?

You could try fitting new exhaust boxes.

I would remove the exhaust including cats and see how much oil is there and leave them to drain at least overnight.

Good possibility that the cat will indeed be toast, I'm amazed that a repair shop would not have renewed cat as routine with the turbo change, the excess oil will have coated all the catalyst surfaces positively negating their ability to function.
That is not an answer to the continually smoking exhaust though, it is possible that so much crud has blown through the exhaust system that it will take lots of time at elevated temperatures to burn out, my experience is a little bit of oil in the wrong places goes a long way.

Latest update : took the car into a range specialist yesterday and after a poke around they found out the plastic intake manifold is cracked ! How I don't know but this would certainly explain a lot I feel. Anyway a replacement has been sourced and awaiting fitment. Keep you posted
