run in with ice and then a bank

had a bit of an accident earlier today.
was driving my aunt into town earlier, down a road that i had already driven an hour before on the way to look for pricked ducks and pheasents.
was driving a very sensible speed for the ice that is around. came round the corner at the top of a hill to see a brand new audi half way down the hill stuck up against the hedge due to the ice. at this point i applied brakes, but just slid, tried again and slid again. carried on sliding down towards the audi, with an oldish lady at the wheel with eyes wide open. being 20 i really did not fancy the insurance claim and decided the hedge was a better option. turned in towards the hedge and luckily it actually turned. hit the hedge really quite hard with the bumping taking some of the impact, but sadly my right hand wheel hit a very large lump of granit in the devon bank. we bounced off the rock and the back end spund round leaving us facing the wrong direction. got out to check the damage expecting a mashed front end, but the tubular bumper i invested it was rock solid. but i then noticed my right hand wheel at a 45 degree angle but my left wheel straight.
now have a track rod like a banana, but managed to get the truck up the hill with the steering in its current state after alot of grit was applied. dont think ill be driving in the ice any time soon

well done... next time though keep yor foot off the break..maybe drop a gear if you've time and just steer past

sadly no picstures as i dropped my phone in a pint of dr pepper a few days ago lol.
my uncle has gone to get the part i need, not looking forward to putting a new track rad on in the snow

just been lying under the defender in the snow and cold in a field on the moor for 2 hours, but after alot of struggling i now have a new rod fitted, god im happy it didnt heavily snow lol
ended up using a passer byes truck to yank the rod forward with a chain, then drive up on a rock to get a better swing with the sledge to nock the ends of the rod out.

yeepp, dont bother with brakes if they dont work, drop a gear and let your engine do the braking, it actually works

Make sure you come off the brakes before you go down a gear or it will maek you stals and send you down the hill like a bobsley like it did for me this morning :doh:

Did that with a jag on a steep slope yesterday, bloke had an auto and tried going up the slope, did an awesome pinball impression, then me and a thames valley recovery 4x4 turned him round and guided him down. wasnt in vain mind, the bloke gave me a tenner for a pint - makes it worthwhile then!

I know that feeling. This was my track rod after a day on Salisbury plain.

What's up with ya I just got from Yeovil to hull and never had any trouble at all??

Mind 2 lorry drivers managed to **** the National Express Coaches mirror in the same 2 mile stretch of road. & I had to spend 7hrs in London waiting for me train. :doh:

Aye I dug in, at Kings cross next to an heater and a 240V double socket so MP3 Player on and a 6hr Doom fest. helped to make the wait go smoothly

What a sad grey bunch of weirdos Londoners are?

And to think they pay extra to live there.

That's like been mugged and then having to pay for ya hospital treatment, and the cleaning bill to get ya blood off the muggers clothes.
