Bought my Landy from a farmers market and the owner at the time was saying that one of its big selling points was that it was agricultural registered meaning no tax, and red diesel. Which is all fair and well however he said it can be used on the road for short distances. Mine will be taxed as a lights good vehicle when the rebuild is fully complete but after doing a search on google I'm slightly confused as to the rules around a Land Rover being agriculturally registered. I was under the impression that red diesel is a no no for any vehicle if it's going to touch a public road? Anyone know the rules behind this?

Are you a farmer , do you only need to use it to cross a road to get from one part of your land to another ?
If you cant say yes to both , then not taxing or using red isnt for you :)

How old is the 109 it may be tax exempt as historic vehicle?

Hi
No this is on a 200tdi defender. My 109 is tax exempt as its a 1971 series 2a. I didn't know a defender would b eligible for solely agricultural uses as it can't be monitored to keep them off the road and it's very easy to drive a defender from off road to on road

You only need to be caught once , as its a C&E offence , they can confiscate the vehicle , and fine etc.
Its your decision If they find you more than 1.5km from one part to another part your history . Its your decision !

Hi regardless of the rules I'm taxing it and running on white. I just didn't think it would be possible to tax it as limited use so just curious about it.

Plenty of older landies (and other 4x4's) used this way. Probably more common in hill-farming areas.
As for monitoring - it is usually pretty obvious from the appearance that the vehicle is used for local agricultural work only. I would think that insurance would be a problem if not "taxed" this way.
