Right, the 300 is back from the menders and I have noticed a gash in the side wall of the OSR tyre. I have plenty of tread on all of the tyres and was planning to replace them with good quality AT's when they got all bolded. Now my hand has been forced what should I do? I don't want to replace all 4 boots right now because there is loads of life left in them (and I don't have lots of cash) but 1 BF Goodridge AT on one corner would look daft. Should I put gaffer tape over the split and keep going until all 4 tyres are racing slicks and I've had chance to save my pennies?

 Someone wake me, I have just read that some **** wants to put tape over a gash in his side wall. No one is that dumb surely

Tongue in cheek  and watch who you are calling a **** :p

What I need to know is what is the recommended way of going about a tyre change on a 4x4? I remember reading something about rolling circumferences doing damage to the diffs if they are not evenly matched. I don't want to replace all 4 tyres for the sake of 1 bad one but will it cause problems if I do.
Any way Gaffer tape in the US is also known as 100mph tape and I wasn't planning on going that fast, so don't panic. :D

what's your spare like? If it's brand new buy another new one and put em both on the same axle, then use your remaining good used tyre as your spare.

The spare is narrower than the ones on the vehicle so not really an option. I take it though from your suggestion a pair of new tyres on the rear axle will be ok with the existing pair left on the front axle? I wasn't sure if that could screw things up.

Driving with a gash on the side wall is not just DANGEROUS (more chance of a blow out) But its also Illigal, Change both the rear Tyres and the other good 1 put on your spare so you have the same size on that as well icase this happens again.

I thought we'd covered this and he'd already said he was buying 2 new tyres. Do try to keep up old chap.

I've decided on a pair of 235/85/16 BF Goodridge AT's for the back of my Disco as the gaffer tape keeps falling off at anything over 25mph, must be the damp weather. ;)

Does anyone know of any deals on these tyres at the moment?

what size have you got on the front of it?

Currently have 235/80/16 Dunlop Grandtrek SJ5's all round and this is my problem. My tyres are less than a year old so have loads of tread but were fitted in Japan before the vehicle was shipped back to the UK. 235/80 profile tyres are not that common over here so it looks like I will have to replace 3 good tyres along with the one with the damaged side wall. I've been told you cannot mix profiles on the same axle (I knew that) but you must also have the same profile front and back. Looks like Paddock are the best so far for BFG's as Steve said but you have to remember to add VAT and £25 delivery.

You cannot put 235/80 16 tyre on the front and 235/85 16 tryes on the back it will fook up with difflock on!!!
the front tyres have less of a circurfrance then the rears!!!

That's what I said in my last post. :) I have one buggered tyre but will have to replace all 4. :(
