RRS burning oil

thats been mentioned before, I thought there would be somewhere that could fix the engine but I keep getting told it’s cheaper to put another one in, with my luck I don’t fancy risking a second hand one so got a quote for a refurb plus new turbo fitted for £8000

Sounds about right , but to be honest I would spend the £8k on another landy and sell urs for parts

£8K:eek: Is that not more than the car is worth? Swan Vestas and a can of accelerant come to mind.

snap, would sell the current landy for spares, can get a good chunk of change when breaking them and indeed put the £8K towards another landy

That’s my other option, was advised the 5.0 Petrol is a better model, is that right

Alas I don’t know I’m afraid

but the other members here will be able to guide u better ref other engines , trying to think what engine has the chain tensioner guide issue , where the tensioner broke the chain guide

The 5.0 Petrol has that issue at 2k a pop but compared to fuel pumps, turbos etc on the Diesel engines

cheers , they put like a dimple on the tensioner guide didn’t they , to stop the tensioner ram from breaking it

must admit I like the D3 4.4 petrol engine , the one from jag

Was it a LR main agent that said all this was needed as there was a guy with a disco 4 that they said needed new brake pipes as they were 8 years old which is rubbish, is it the engine burning the oil through ware or the turbos as they are known to go.

Brake pipes fail early on the newer models. Seems Land Rover used really **** steel after the financial crash.

It seams JLR have put replace after so many years on the service list the same time as the fluid, they must have used best chineseum steel and thinner.

The ones on my Cortina lasted forty odd years i think some are still original but on the list to be done as there older than me:( just :D

The brake pipes on my MR2 are 36 years old and rust free. Not sure it's Chinese steel but as TATA own JLR it could well be Indian steel.
