rrc clutch slave cylinder throw

anyone know how much throw (movement) typical slave cylinder should have?
does it actually use all its cylinder.?this i dought..

havin trouble getting clutch (chevy) to operate,but slave is only moving about 3/4 inch at most..might just need another feckin gallon of fluid through it to bleed it up proper..feels very spongy indicating air,yet done plenty in the past and this is being a right bugger if indeed it is air locked..
so wondering if infact it is bleed up and just dont have the throw i need...


using gen oe brand new master and slave..no leaks

No it does not use all the cylinder. It is usually a self adjusting unit. Starts off all the way in when clutch is new, moves position along cylinder as clutch wears to take up play.
 
If the Master Cylinder piston size is small and the Clutch Slave piston size is large, the amount of fluid the Master can push will be small in comparison to the volume on the annular side of the Clutch Slave Piston.....if they were the same size the movement between the two would be the same, a differential between piston sizes would result in a differential movement...

Vice Versa if the Master was a large piston diameter and the Slave small, only a tiny movement of the master would be enough to full throw the Slave!

EDIT: just read using are using OE Cylinders so I am guessing they are from the same vehcile i.e. both Master and Slave are Range Rover parts and as such the throws of the pistons are 'matched.'

reducing slave piston diameter would increase the amount movement per pedal stroke but would increase pressure needed on the pedal , as clutch wears on a std set up clutch diaphragm pushes rod further into slave cylinder

slave and master are brand new oe..

but master is 5/8..thats standard
slave 7/8..thats standard so.

this i assume is to give nice easy pedal..

now i need a smaller dia slave..not much chance there and still have it fit

or bigger dia master..more chance of that...oh well kit car/preformance/racing shops here i come i suppose...more money..sigh...
