Hi everyone.

Well L322 went to Land Rover at Boston today regarding Restricted Performance, Stability Control not available and Emergency brake assist not available.

Full diagnostics done. No error codes other than air mass sensor which has been replaced (before I purchased) and the fault probably not cleared as not done by Land Rover.

All they can suggest is that I leave the car with them and they will try and drive it about until it does the same thing again and do further diagnostics which I am told on top of £180 already spent will cost a further £360 with the possibility it still won't be known what is happening.

The fault is very intermittent and goes away if you stop the car turn off and then restart. We have done over 500 miles since it last threw up these messages, some 2/3 weeks ago, so there is little point in leaving it with Land Rover for a few days as this will cost a small fortune and they could drive it around and it may or may not co-operate!!! Thus leaving us in the same boat we are in now with no error codes and no idea what it might be doing.

Any thoughts on the problem anyone. We have checked the battery voltage which is in the required range for car off and car idling, so assume it is not low voltage which is causing the problem. I think not logging error codes is a big problem as really without them it is just guess work.

Thank you in advance.

are you sure its not just low battery throwing spurious faults? what are the actual values?

Hi Kermit RR. Nice to meet you. The battery readings are 12.7 when off and 13.6 when idling. Your thoughts???
that is probably OK. is 12.7 after shutting off the engine, or after leaving the car sit overnight? has the battery been tested by a proper battery tester?

Hello again Kermitt RR. Just taken it to our local garage who has checked the battery. After a short run it read 12.2 and doing a further check he said basically it's knackered. Now booked in to the local garage for fulll major service, replacement battery and new brake pads on the front. Hopefully the new battery will solve the original problem. Thank you so much for your help in suggesting battery. You should get a job at Land Rover as they wanted to drive it around till it done it again!!!!! Thank you again.

Make sure they fit the biggest battery possible.

I've had this on mine, cracked inlet manifold and amusingly have just been replying in another thread about it too.

Was this it?

If so, check out this other thread from post #10 it may well help you out.

Thank you Blob. It went to my local garage and had a full major service done on it for megabucks!!! The car dealer who was selling it maintained it had been serviced by them and although the service book was stamped my garage said it had been serviced in a long while. So all in all:=

Motor flush, Brake clean, Oil Filter, New oil, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, new battery, front disc pads, gearbox sump/filter, gear oil, 3 brake pipes, rear brake hoses. I had already replaced the windscreen wipers. Unable to check the r/diff level as the plug is absolutely solid and cannot be moved. She also has an air con leak but my chap suggested coming back for that as it was not immediately apparent where it is leaking from. Is there anything else I can possibly do to keep this old girl in good health????

I have not had a repeat of the original problem and we have taken it out on long runs of 250 miles , 100 mile runs and a couple of shorter ones.

Interestingly Land Rover at Boston said there were no fault codes save for an air mass sensor, (recently replaced before I bought it) and yet my local garage gave me a print of numerous fault codes that had been found and said they believed they were caused by the battery being under par. All codes have been cleared and when it goes back to trace the air con leak they will run a check to make sure none have come back. Incidentally they said the air con doesn't hold a vacuum?????

A vacuum test is normal to check for leaks.

New a mechanic who worked at Ford. He used to "borrow " customers cars to drive round in to find faults, even went on holiday with them. All came to an end one day when he alas managed to right one of the cars off. :rocket: :vb-lol:

If the air-con condenser isn't obviously leaking from somewhere (usually they use dye with nitrogen gas to spot it) then it might be work checking the thermostatic expansion valve because if that acts up it might start venting to atmosphere to protect itself.

That's a beauty. I want your wheels!

Glad it's all on the mend now. I took mine to the Haute Vienne last week and it performed beautifully and (as always happens when I am there) it failed me when it was time to leave. That's not an LR issue, it happens with whatever vehicle I take!

I was certain that I had an inlet manifold issue again as it kept dropping into limp when on boost and as I was out of time I had to nurse it 381 miles home driving at higher RPM and low torque. Having checked everything I could think of and not being able to pressurise the system successfully I decided to remove the boost hoses and inspect them carefully. Pleasingly there is almost no oil in them so I am happy that my turbos are in good order (as much as you can test without removing them). The top hose from the intercooler on Bank B (left side of the car) has a bit of anti-abrasion sleeving on it, when I pulled it back, I found my issue!

Just been to LR for an expensive coffee and a couple of free hoses. £106.24 for both top hoses, I didn't feel that was too bad really.
