Hi I bought vehicle couple of days ago done 200 miles on gas temp gauge went into red called AA noticed vaporiser frozen no heating in cab and the overflow passing water from header tank out to deck, AA carried out fluid head test on cooling water header tank couldn't decide if blue fluid changed to green, personally i think it never. tried a pressure test on system raised to 7psi while running up to mormal pressure (filled system prior to test) dropped to 5 psi in about 20mins and lost a 15mm on header level on tank. There was no visible external leaks. Please advise is it the head gasket gone or something else ?

Look forward to replies!

Update

I have found two very small leaks 1st was on my vaporiser either the supply or return water hose replace jubilee clip, 2nd was the small bore pipe running from the top over the rad back to header tank replaced jubilee clip i think this is over flow.

couple of questions:
how hard should the top rad hose that runs from the engine ?

when i open the header tank cap hot or cold i release pressure and the water level rises is this normal?

would i prove anything if i carried out compression test per cyclinder?

Would i get a good indication if i removed both cyclinder heads and inspected top of cyclinder block for slipped liners?

any leaks obviously need plugging!

on mine when i had the head off on the passenger side bank, two of the liners have a noticable lip and are lower than the deck of the block, about the thickness of a thumbnail.

have a look at the plugs, if they are washed then its head gaskets or liners, take heads off and asses.

also the xhaust ports may be washed, another little sign as/if youre stripping it.

look for bubbles entering the bottom of the coolant tank, it bubbles like mad on mine.

get another chemical test done. also you can shut off the lpg supply at the tanks and run it out of lpg, re start on petrol see if the problem persits. if it does then i would say it needs stripping for further examination!

the top hose should be firm but not solid!
