OK, thanks chaps. I'll try that next and try to stop the new fusebox from arriving.

Is there a way to test this theory with the alternator in place? I'm kind of running out of time today and I'm working solid next week so nothing is going to get done now for a few weeks.

Many thanks for all your help,

J

Think theory has already been tested. There should be NO power to Brown/Yellow wire going into plug under relay 12 unless engine is running. If there is it can only be a fault in controller on alternator..

Thought I'd just confirm the final solution.

Alternator was knackered! Slight twist to the story though. Replacing the voltage power regulator board didn't fix it so there must be some other diodes somewhere inside. Also, the BMW alternator appears to be exactly the same yet £100 cheaper (so bit of a no-brainer there.)

All back together and blissfull silence with the key out and Rangie locked up. Hopefully that'll be the end of all the battery drain problems.

Cannot thank you all enough for all your efforts on this. Very much appreciated and if ever you're in the Bucks area then please drop in and the beers are on me.

Many thanks,

J

Yes other diodes in alternator. Anyway all's well that ends well.

As I said in post 58, diode pack:) Unusual for the diodes to go short circuit, they usually fail open circuit.
