Hi All,

I need advice on this problem with my TD5, it started with loss of power, then rough running occured and is now constant. The engine won't rev above 2500rpm and runs as if on 4 pots and smokes abit.

I've changed the air mass meter "no change", their is no buzzing from the fuel pump so I assume no air in the system, I've replaced the fuel pressure regulator last year so I know this is good.

I've also checked the injector loom no oil is present at the ECU end or red plug so I guess this is still good.

Thoughts are injector fault or fuel pump or something more sinister, any suggestions all welcome.

Cheers Jon

does it run ok once you restart engine, i had same problem one of the injectors was failing after running a mile or two, turn engine off off left it for 5 mins then it ran ok for 2 mile's . get it on diagnostics showed faulty injector if thats the probelm.

If you start the engine then stand by the rear off-side tyre, can you hear the pump working or not?

Dave

Hi Mark,

Would you belive it it s running better but i still think its rough but by no means where I was on Sunday. I'm tempted to give it a run to see what happens.

cheers Jon

Hi Dave,

Couldn't hear anything, I've only had the pump swirling when I had a cracked fuel filter housing which I replaced last year. I couldnt feel anything on the filter body either running better but not as sweet as it was before the trouble.

Cheers Jon

Just one further point it now revs above 2500rpm and is prety much as it should be, mind you it could still be a problem.

I changed the MAF but no change on Sunday now its running better and its not been of my drive confused but hopeful.

It's sounding very much like your pump may be partially blocked and/or on it's way out.

I would advise you to access the in-tank pump, remove it, clean it's internal filter (which is likely to be blocked up with black muck) and re-install.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thnaks for that, just as an update started and ran up the street was running sweet as before all the bother. ran crap for a little then cleared.

I've got a new fuel pump just in case so I'll change it and let you know.

Thanks for your advice

Regards Jon:)

Hi Jon, don't forget to check the filter within your existing pump - if it's blocked up it will give the symptoms you have - it might just need a clean.

Hi Dave,

Changed the pump and all's well runs like better than before, as you suggested black gunge in the filter.

Now its MOT time

Thanks for your advice

All the best Jon
