Hi all

My car is the TD4 with 60,000 miles it has just had a new high pressure fuel pump fitted but has now developed an annoying lumpy tickover when warm. From cold all is ok but as soon as it is warm the tickover varies from 500-750 and acceleration is slow until revs increase to around 2500 then the engine seems normal. I run on Esso supreme diesel and have put some Redex in the last fill up. I have cleaned the EGR valve and checked injectors by unplugging each one in turn, the engine runs worse no matter which one is unplugged which tells me that they are all working. When driving at low revs the engine is very lumpy and the warning light flashes on as the engine seems to die and then goes off as the engine picks up.

All advice appreciated.

Hi Dreamcather.
When you had the HPFP fitted did it also have the regulator fitted as new, ie was the fuel pump an whole new unit ? if not it could be that, also even though unplugging the injectors one by one the only way to test them is by doing a leak back test, as one could be out of sync, it may even be the high pressure sensor located in the left-hand end of the common fuel rail or its wiring, I would try and get in on a T4 or hawkeye and get some readings otherwise it is all guess work in my opinion, hopefully someone else wil ick up on your thread and have an idea or some suggestion's

Thanks for this Arctic. I am not sure what Evans Halshaw actually replaced, I think it was a whole new pump. I have since temporarily disconnected the MAF sensor but this seemed to make things worse.
